Equal Rights Amendment
The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) is the 28th amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would guarantee equal legal rights for all American citizens regardless of sex. It has been a focal point of debate for decades, and while it has passed both houses of Congress and been ratified by the required number of states, its official inclusion in the Constitution remains contested.
The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) states: "Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex."
